Short and quick getaways are many times preferable to full blown vacations. There are many fun and interesting things to do on a weekend getaway that are often overlooked. You can do many things for just pennies on the dollar and accomplish the same things you would on an expensive trip! There are a number of reasons why you may find that an inexpensive getaway will be better for you than an expensive vacation.

Because you will be spending much less on airline ticket and accommodations, you can focus on that which really truly matters: food and entertainment. You will be able to explore the best dining places your destination provides or even take a look at a number of enjoyable local shows.

You can certainly devote a lot less time preparing for a short getaway. All of us understand the experience of planning and organizing for a long trip: packing, canceling the mail, getting the prescriptions in order, making sure the dog is cared for, and so on. With regard to your getaway, simply grab the essentials and break free!

There is actually much less stress to relax on a getaway. Sometimes on our one vacation of the year we feel excessive amounts of stress in setting up the environment to relieve our stress, which is not really helpful for that purpose! This totally defeats the purpose of our vacation and leaves us with more stress when we get back. This is especially true if it was an expensive vacation which you really could not afford to take.

My boys and I just came back from a ’ski trip’ to a small place just an hour and a half from home. And because the hotel was running a special we were able to spend the night, rent skis, and purchase lift tickets for less than the cost of ski rental and lift tickets had we only purchased that. We were able to make a long weekend out of it and not have to worry about time - and isn’t that the point of a getaway?

Locations that are within driving distance from home can frequently end up being locations to which you will return. A number of families travel to the same destination year after year and build up great family memories that way.
